Blacksmith3D-Suite 2.2.0.0 is now available (free upgrade for
all 2.x users). This is available to all current users to test and give
their input for the upcoming version 2.2. The new features
include...
3D Painting
- Paint High Resolution Texture Maps regardless of your
video RAM or the maximum texture size. Blacksmith3D-Suite (and
Paint) now support texture maps up to 8192x8192 in size, even on
a video card with as little as 32 MB of RAM.
- Map Manager (Paint and Suite only)
allows you to have more control over the image maps that you paint.
You can now copy maps from Blacksmith3D and paste them
into other applications (Photoshop, etc.) where you can edit them
and paste them back into Blacksmith3D-Suite.
- True Displacement and Bump Mapping in the Blacksmith3D
renderer allow you to see the result of your displacement and bump
maps without rendering in another application. Displacement maps are
rendered by dynamically subdividing the mesh, so you can see
high resolution displacements.
Morphing
- Unmorph tool improved. You no longer have to "harden" a
selection to completely unmorph the selected vertices. If you
keep dragging the mouse, the lesser selected vertices will
eventually unmorph as well.
- Various optimizations and bug fixes.
Optimizations and Efficiencies
- Compatible with more video cards than ever
before. We've implemented techniques that make Blacksmith3D-Suite
less sensitive to differences in video card drivers.
- 3D Painting no longer stores the large texture
maps in video memory. They are stored in system memory so the
limitations of your video card no longer matter.
- Improved Memory Management has been implemented so you can
have projects that contain many morph targets and selections,
without using more memory. Only the morphs/selections that are
actively being used will consume memory.
Various Tweaks Include
- Option to not load the default project on startup.
- Render Quality option (Paint and
Suite only) for rendering. Lower values yield
faster renders while higher values yield finer detail in the
maps.
- Negative strengths allowed for maps (e.g. displacement,
bump)
- Displacement maps now use black as the "zero
displacement" color, rather than grey to maintain consistency
with other 3D applictions.
- Option to Invert Colors of a map.
- You can now change the Wireframe Overlay color to
make it easier to see it on dark objects
- Much, much more!
May 10, 2006
Blacksmith3D-Suite 2.1.9.9 is now available (free upgrade for
all 2.x users). This is available to all current users to test and give
their input for the upcoming version 2.2.
You input would be greatly appreciated. If you find any bugs or
abnormalities, please report them ASAP so we can get them fixed up for
the version 2.2 release.
Notes...
- Bug fixed that manifested itself in a few systems (read
about it).
- Unmorph tool improved. You no longer have to "harden" a
selection to completely unmorph the selected vertices. If you
keep dragging the mouse, the lesser selected vertices will
eventually unmorph as well.
