Blacksmith3D-Modeler

New to the Blacksmith3D tool set is Blacksmith3D-Modeler. The modeler has been designed for adding detail to existing 3D objects with ease. The unique thing about Blacksmith3D-Modeler is that each modeling operation preserves the existing morph targets. So if you have a character with 100's of facial morphs, and you want to make some geometric changes to the mesh, then the morph targets will be adjusted automatically!

Although the modeling tools have been designed for modest editing of existing models, the dragon model displayed here was created from a mere six sided cube. Polygons were extruded and subdivided to create the structure, and deformers were used to create the shape.

Here we see the dragon model automatically reduced by 80%. No additional parameters were tweaked.
Modeling Features include
  • Symmetric Modeling- Every modeling operation can be performed symmetrically, so whatever you do on one side, is done on the other.
  • Selective Subdivision- Select objects in whole or in part. Add detail where you need it the most!
  • Automatic Polygon Reduction- Reduce the polygon count of object automatically. See how the shape of objects are preserved with reductions up to 90%!
  • Extrude- A deceiving simple, yet powerful modeling tool. Select groups of polygons and extrude them to create detail quickly and easily. The extrude tool was used to create 90% of the detail in the dragon model shown here. Advanced options for controlling the direction of the extruded polygons are provided as well.
  • Touch-up Modeler provides options like Merge Points, Split Polygons, etc. Acts on selections, or by directly clicking on the vertices/polygons in the viewport.
