- Painting with Alpha Masks (Alpha Channel) -

  • Blacksmith3D-Paint supports Alpha Masks for painting.
  • Used for a variety of purposes in host applications (e.g. composite maps in 3D Studio Max)
  • If you know what an alpha channel is, then you probably know many of it's uses.
  • To create an alpha mask for a map, right click on the map and choose Create Alpha Mask
  • Select the Paint Eraser tool and erase a portion of the map in the viewport
  • To erase the entire map's contents (that is, set alpha to zero for every pixel) right click on the map and choose Clear
  • Now try to use a variety of paint brushes to see how they behave with an alpha mask
  • Shown here is the Paint Brush (with a brush image), and the touch-up brush using Smudge and Blur
  • Notice how we painted across UV seams without any issues.
