Basic Morphing Tutorial
The purpose of this tutorial is to demonstrate workflow of the morphing process as a series of selections and deformations. Notice how the soft selections allow us to easily create smooth, organic morphs on high resolution objects.
Setting up
- Load the object
- View it from the left (left arrow key)
Set Culling Options
- In the culling panel, select None
- This will allow our selection tools to go through the object.
Selecting the nose
- Using the selection tool of your choice, select the nose.
- Use the S hotkey to soften the selection a few times.
- Please refer to the basic selections tutorial for more details.
Deforming the nose
- Click on the Morph tab
- Choose the Move deformer
- Click in the viewport and drag the cursor to the right
Note...
- You may be prompted to choose a current morph target.
- In the Manager window, in the Morphs section, choose Default Morph.
- Please note the red box next to the morph's name. This indicates that it is the current morph, and any deformation will act upon it.
Deforming the nose (continued...)
- Choose the Rotate deformer
- Set the direction to Tilt
- Click on the center of rotation in the viewport and drag the cursor to the right.

Deforming chin and forehead.
- Repeat the same basic procedure to deform the chin and forehead.
- Feel free to exaggerate features to make this guy really scary.
Deforming the ears
- Now let use do a symmetric deformation of the ears.
- Press the UP hotkey to view the object from the front.
- Select the ears and use the S key to soften the selection.
- Using the Move deformer, stretch the ears up and out.
- In addition, use the Rotate deformer to curl them down a bit
Making pointy ears.
- Press the LEFT hotkey to view the model from the left again
- Choose the Scale deformer
- Uncheck the Vert and Depth parameters in the tool window.
- Click on the tip of the ear and drag the cursor to pinch the ears

Deforming the rest of the head
- Using the basic procedure described above, deform the rest of the head as desired

Creating an asymmetrical look
- Now that we created a perfectly symmetrical morph, let's make it look more realistic by roughing it up a bit.
- Uncheck the Use Symmetry option.
- Create some asymmetrical deformations. A crooked nose, chin and a lopsided skull should do the trick.
