Symmetric Painting

If your model was designed to be symmetric, then you have the option of painting symmetrically on it. The model should be created such that it's center line is perfectly along the X, Y or Z axis. Symmetry in the X axis the most common setup, with the plane of symmetry being the YZ Plane. Symmetric painting works with most of the painting tools.

If a model is not perfectly symmetric, then the symmetry algorithms will do their best to compensate, which may (or may not) have desireable results.

Intermediate Tutorials

Step 1. Check the Paint Symmetrically option, and paint on the model's right side (your left). When you release finish the paint stroke, notice how it appears symmetrically on both sides of the model.

Step 2. Now, to emphasize the fact that we are paint symmetrically, and not using the Mirror Horizontally option, rotate the viewing angle and apply another paint stroke. Notice how it appears properly on the other side of the model.
